What is the difference between Aida 14 and 16?
It’s made from 100% cotton and comes in various “counts” meaning holes per inch. “14 count aida” means that there are 14 holes/squares per inch of the fabric. Therefore, “16 count aida” means that there are 16 holes/squares per inch and so, the squares or ‘crosses’ you stitch will be smaller.
Should I use 14 or 16 count Aida?
The larger the number, the smaller the squares formed on the Aida cloth. So if you’re a beginner you might start stitching on 14 count, probably the most common size available. As you get more experienced you might move to 16 or 18 count Aida, or to even weave linen designed for stitching.
