Michelle Hua, a rising junior at Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, won this year’s first place $75,000 George D. Yancopoulos Innovator Award, the top prize at the 2021 Regeneron ISEF.
What is an official abstract?
An abstract allows judges to quickly determine the nature and scope of a project. • Emphasize these aspects: purpose (hypothesis), methods (procedures used), data summary or analysis, and conclusions. • Focus only on the current year’s research.
What do you put in an abstract for science fair?
Almost all scientists and engineers agree that an abstract should have the following five pieces:
- Introduction. This is where you describe the purpose for doing your science fair project or invention.
- Problem Statement. Identify the problem you solved or the hypothesis you investigated.
- Procedures.
- Results.
- Conclusions.
Is ISEF a big deal?
The ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) is the most prestigious science fair for high school students in the country, and its name is well known among colleges and the scientific community.
What are the different forms required by the ISEF?

How long should the abstract be?
1) An abstract should be typed as a single paragraph in a block format This means no paragraph indentation! 2) A typical abstract should only be about 6 sentences long or 150 words or less.
Is it hard to get into ISEF?
Each year, about 1,800 students participate at ISEF where they present their research projects to experts in their field. You’ll need to compete in lower-level science fairs to get a ticket to ISEF, and only those whose projects are both innovative and useful to the scientific community generally get chosen.
What happens if you win ISEF?
Awards are $3,000, $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively in each of the 21 categories. The top winner of the Regeneron ISEF receives an award of $75,000, with the next top two winners each receiving $50,000.
Do you need a mentor for ISEF?
It’s not essential–you can still do well without one–but finding a mentor will be exceedingly helpful.
What is the use of ISEF form 6?
These forms constitute written documentation of what will occur, or in some cases, has already occurred, in a research project. They are designed to provide the information that is needed to review the project to ensure compliance with the ISEF rules and with laws and regulations that apply to the project.
